Assam - Nagaland- Meghalaya

Places to Visit : Dibrugarh -Jorhat – Kohima -Tuophema – Wokha - Tuophema -Kaziranga National Park – Shillong

Day 01( Fri ): Arrive Dibrugarh
Arrive Dibrugarh. Meeting & Greeting and transferred to Hotel. Dibrugarh- the Tea Hub of upper Assam and gateway to Eastern Arunachal Pradesh is located on the Southern bank of the mighty Brahmaputra River. Dibrugarh is the original home of the beverage. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 02 (Sat): At Dibrugarh
After breakfast, drive back to Tai Phake (60kms/1hr 30min). Enroute visit Nam Phake village - an ethnic village whose kith and kin date back to the Ahom period. The villagers still maintain their age-old culture - a village worth exploring. It is situated near the River Buri-Dihing. A Buddhist Monastery dots the village which belongs to the Hinayana sects. Tai translation of the Ramayana written on handmade paper has been newly discovered in this village. The structures of the houses are unique as the walls are made of bamboo and the roof is of palm leaves (Toko), mounted over a Chang or stilt. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 03 (Sun): Dibrugarh – Jorhat
After breakfast drive on to Jorhat (160kms/4hrs). Enroute visit the monuments and temple of medieval period at Sivsagar. Sivsagar was once the capital of the Ahom Kings. The Shans who came from Thailand through Northern Myanmar to this area in early 13th century, ruled for 600 years. The Siva Temple, built by the Ahoms, situated here is believed to be the tallest of all existing Hindu temples. The ruins of the Ahom palaces and monuments dot the landscape around this historical town. Centuries, before the arrival of the British, this part of the world was controlled by a number of tribal chieftains. In the town of Sivasagar, one can still see the remaining well-preserved relics. Palaces, tanks, forts, places of worship. The largest and the oldest amphitheatre of Asia (Rang Ghar) is also another remarkable landmark in the history of Sivasagar. The Tai- Ahom Museum of Sivsagar contains the some of the relics of the Ahom period, like – swords, clothes, manuscripts and sundry artefacts. Overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 04 (Mon): Jorhat – Kohima
After breakfast, drive to Kohima (220kms/6hrs). Kohima, now the state capital of Nagaland, is situated at an altitude of 1495 mts. above sea level. This hill station, with a panoramic view of the rugged Naga Hills was witness to a fifty-day and night non-stop fighting during the 2nd World War. A garrison of 3500 made a stand against a besieging army of 15,000! Visit and discover this “Battle of Tennis Court!” Have a close experience of Angami tribal village. Evening at leisure. Overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 05 (Tue): At Kohima
At Kohima – forenoon visit the Garrison Hill area to revisit the Battle of Kohima – hear about the stories of the war as it happened then. The tour culminates at the 2nd World War Cemetery where the famous battle of tennis court took place.Visit the State Museum, the handloom and handicraft emporium is a treasure house of traditional weaves along with the souvenir shops. Visit the Nagaland State Museum houses statues, pillars, jewelry, drums and gateposts which depict the culture of Nagaland in its true spirit. The War Cemetery houses the graves of many Indian and foreign soldiers who died in the Second World War. It was built in commemoration of the sacrifices made by thousands of soldiers. And visit all other main attractions. Overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 06 (Wed): Kohima - Tuophema
After breakfast, drive to Jakhama and explore the Angami naga village. Later drive to Tuophema (40kms/2hrs)- a tourist village. Evening, enjoy a cultural programme performed by the ethnic dance group of the area. Overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 07 (Thr): Tuophema – Wokha - Tuophema
After breakfast, drive to Wokha (50kms/2hrs). Experience the rich charm of the tribal culture of the Lotha tribe. Visit the Lotha tribal villages. Afternoon, drive back to Tuophema. Overnight stay at the hotel.

Kaziranga National ParkDay 08 (Fri): Tuophema - Kaziranga National Park
After breakfast, drive to Kaziranga National Park (234kms/8hrs). Overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 09 (Sat): Kaziranga National Park – Shillong
After breakfast, drive to Shillong (317kms/6hrs) in the state of Meghalaya (1496 mtrs). Evening, walk through a local market to imbibe the spirit of the Khasi tribal market place run by the womenfolk. Overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 10(Sun): At Shillong
Early morning drive to Cherrapunjee (60kms/2hrs). Castle.Cherrapunjee – the place once received the heaviest rainfall the world. The drive gives a spectacular view of deep gorges and the rolling hills luxurious with tropical vegetation that boast an innumerable variety of ferns, moss and orchids. Cherrapunjee’s numerous falls are most impressive during the steamy monsoon season when awesome torrents of water plunge down to the Bangladeshi plains. At Cherrapunjee, explore the lime- stone caves. Upon arrival transfer to the hotel. Evening at leisure. Overnight stay at the hotel at the Tripura.

Day 11(Mon): Shillong – Guwahati
After breakfast, drive to Guwahati (104kms/3hrs). Afternoon take a boat ride to Umananda temple in the middle of the rive Brahmaputra. Overnight stay at the at Guwahati.

Day 12(Tue): Shillong – Guwahati / Fly out
After breakfast, optional visit Kamakhya Temple, later transfer to the airport to board the flight for onward destination.
